Devakant

Throughout his life, Devakant learned from music and meditation masters. He spent many years with mystic Osho, receiving personal instruction in the art of playing meditative music. Through meditation practice, he discovered a deeper music rooted in silence. He further expanded his horizons by residing in Japan, studying in Buddhist temples and Zen monasteries, and exploring Tibetan monasteries and sacred archaeological sites in the Himalayas and Central and South America, gathering seeds that would blossom into his own musical compositions.

Devakant embarked on his musical journey at the age of 7, immersing himself in Western classical music. His musical odyssey expanded to include the flute, piano, and violin during his teenage years. At the University of California, Berkeley, he pursued composition and delved into the realm of Indian classical music at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California.

In 1978, he made his inaugural voyage to India, studying under a master of classical Indian vocal music and the Rudra Veena. Over a span of 15 years, Devakant frequented India, residing there for over 7 years. He delved deep into the enchanting realm of the bamboo flute (Bansuri) in Bombay under the tutelage of the renowned Hariprasad Chaurasia. He also mastered the Sarangi and Rudra Veena, two lesser-known yet profoundly evocative instruments of ancient India.
